### Assembly

Represents a molecular cloning assembly that combines multiple DNA fragments into complete constructs. Assemblies model the process of joining fragment sequences (such as genes, promoters, and terminators) using methods like Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate, or restriction enzyme-based cloning. The assembly tracks the input fragments and resulting construct sequences, enabling design-to-experiment traceability. Assemblies can be organized in folders and support archiving when no longer needed.

- `archived` (boolean, optional)
- `createdAt` (string, optional) — DateTime the Assembly was created
- `creator` (PrincipalRef, optional, nullable)

When laboratory samples need to be temporarily removed from storage (e.g., for an experiment), users can check them out, optionally adding a comment and assigning responsibility to a user or team (see Assignee). The record captures when the status was last modified. This enables sample tracking workflows and prevents conflicts when multiple users need access to the same samples.

The group field identifies replicate sets: wells with the same primary role and group number are treated as technical replicates for statistical analysis. The subrole field provides additional categorization for controls (e.g., POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, MAXIMUM, MINIMUM); only CONTROL primary roles may have subroles. ExperimentalRole is used in plate-based workflows to define experimental layouts (see PlateMapPosition) and annotate wells in FixedPlate and Container objects.

The value may be null if no value has been set. Used within the `schemaFields` collection on objects that implement `HasSchema` to provide access to all custom field values defined by the object's schema.

### CustomField

A name-value pair for storing additional metadata on objects that support custom fields. CustomFields provide a flexible way to attach arbitrary string data to entities, containers, datasets, and other Benchling objects without modifying their schemas. Objects that can have custom fields implement the HasCustomFields interface. Unlike schema-defined fields, custom fields are not validated against a schema and can be freely added or modified.

Each Measurement pairs a numeric value with a Unit (see Unit) to provide context-aware quantity handling. For example, a container might have a Measurement of 500 uL for its volume. Unlike ContainerQuantity which provides a simpler representation, Measurement supports the full Unit system with dimensional conversions.

Detailed information about a molecular conjugate formed by a group of contiguous connections in a complex polymer. The entire chemical structure of the molecular conjugate, and any components inside it, is represented by a molfile. This allows for the representation of any bond chemistry, beyond the simple leaving group style supported by HELM. For example, suppose we have two involved connections, one between a backbone oligo and a linker molecule, and another between the linker molecule and a payload molecule. Then the molfile would represent the entire complex of: - the monomer on the backbone where the linker attaches - the connection between monomer and linker - the linker molecule - the connection between linker and payload - the payload molecule Currently, this structure will only represent user-drawn attachments. However, in the future, this object may also contain leaving group style connections as well.
